What are the components of a pin header connector? Introduction to pin header connectors.

Pin header connectors are commonly used with socket connectors to form board-to-board connections or with terminal connectors in electronic wire harnesses to form board-to-wire connections. They can also be used independently for board-to-board connections. These connectors are primarily composed of contacts, accessories, insulators, and housings.

1.Contacts:

Contacts are the essential components of the connector and consist of male and female contact pairs. The electrical connection performance of pin header connectors relies on the mating of these male and female contacts. The male contacts are rigid components and can be cylindrical, rectangular, or flat in shape. The female contacts, known as receptacles, utilize an elastic structure that allows for resilient deformation when male pins are inserted. This elastic deformation generates spring force, ensuring a secure and close contact between the male and female parts to establish the connection.

2.Accessories:

This category includes structural components and installation accessories. It comprises retaining rings, keying options, locating pins, guide pins, coupling rings, cable clamps, sealing rings, sealing gaskets, and other structural attachments. Installation accessories such as screws, nuts, bolts, and spring rings are also part of this category.

3.Insulators:

Also referred to as bases or mounting plates, insulators are responsible for arranging the positions and spacing of the contacts as required. They ensure the insulation performance between the contacts and between the contacts and the housing. Insulators need to possess excellent insulation resistance, voltage withstand capabilities, and ease of processing.

4.Housing:

The housing not only provides protection but also ensures the precision during insertion. It securely fastens the connector to the device.
